Honestly, I do have my own interest in theological religious traditions. I know SOME facts about both Kabbalah (which is Jewish) and Gnosticism (kind of a sort of a Jewish and Catholic amalgamation). I am aware of Sufism which would be the Islamic answer to these but I'm afraid I don't know much about that one. Also I'm going to be referring to God a few times in the rest of this comment and instead of "The Abrahamic God" or "Allah" or other names, I'll simply call it God.
I still consider myself atheist but the actual religious ideas behind these is legitimately interesting to me as instead of "God rained sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah for their sins! What sins? YOU DECIDE!", Based on my reading, God himself is the "YOU DECIDE!" All three refer to God as being a separate entity from what human beings have dreamed up as "God." Not an old man pointing at Adam or screaming that a 90 year old is going to give birth by his law but more the tree falling in the forest. No one is around to hear it fall but we have to assume that noise is made simply because of our perception that "when we're in the forest, we hear trees fall".
Now that is just MY understanding of this and it could be wrong to what you read or find out BUT I've started to think along the lines of recommending said ideologies to believers who want something not quite so traditional for their worship. I DO get the trauma aspect and understand that none of what I've suggested might appeal BUT...it's an idea.
